1st Project

I decided to base my project on.... Creating something that I could use to spice up my newly built room, while also incorporating my obsession for flowers. I got this idea from typing "diy projects" into Google's search bar.

Why I chose this project...I chose this project because I thought it was very creative and unique, and the finished product resembled a flower. To me, flowers signifies beauty, purity, relaxation, nature, and an all around earthly balance that kind of gives life to something, which in this case, I would like to give to my room. So instead of using real flowers, I just took the idea and created it in a different way.

Week #1

1. Gather materials (scissors, foam balls, coil, q-tips, light bulb, paint and a brush)

2. Use of the wires or coils to wrap around the top part of the light bulb to create the vase for the flower.
3. Here is what the finished product should look like.

Week #2
4. Take your q-tips and cut them in the middle one at a time.
5. To make sure the q-tips stay in place, it might be a good idea to use some type of glue.
6. Take the q-tips and stick them into the foam just enough so it stays, DO NOT push them in all the way.

Week #3
7. Choose the paint that you  would like to use.

8. Take your brush and start painting the ends of the q-tips.

9. You can also get even more creative and paint the inside of the foam as I did, as well as, played around with more colors to decorate the flower.

10. End Result: A beautiful and unique flower and vase
:)

Self-Critique: I truly enjoyed creating this project because it allowed me to push my artistic, creative and painting skills. I thought this project was a good one to do and I am pleased with the outcome. The only suggestion I would make is to get stronger coil that will better support the flower holder (light bulb).

  1. The earthy colors you chose to paint the flower worked extremely well together. However, it would have been nice to see some parts of the flower with warmer colors, like yellow or orange. I can see that there is yellow already but I think if you had allowed more of the yellow to show through (or even paint some of the qtips yellow) it would have the pop of color the class was wanting to see. This is a really cute project though, I love it. Using a light bulb as a vase is a cool idea! Also, I don't know if you were trying to convey some sort of message with your work but it made me think of natural energy.

  2. I love the creative mind that you have going into this project. Flower in a vase my was first thought when I was first looking at this project. I can say that You could have used more warm colors as well. A lil red would've made it pop out more, or even MORE yellow. The different materials used to symbolize the different tools was also a great idea. Great work on this project i can't wait to see the other two...

  3. I love this idea of the light bulb being able to be a functional vase. i think this is a great DIY project for moms and children attending school. I think you should have added more coils to support the bulb a little more other than that I love it.
